Description

FOLIC ACID B12 INJECTION is the combination of the supplements of Folic acid and Vitamin B12.

Composition: Folic acid 15 mg/mL Cyanocobalamin (Vit B 12) 500mcg/ml

Features and Benefits:  FOLIC-ACID & VITAMIN B12 are essential B Complex vitamins, both vitally involved in many critical metabolic processes related to coenzymes for DNA synthesis, tissue formation, complete utilization of carbohydrates and proteins for nervous tissue maintenance and energy production and blood counts.

FOLIC ACID and VITAMIN B12 act in synergy in the formation of DNA and deficiencies can have very serious consequences, both in performance horses with a high tissue turnover rate and also in pregnancy and growth of young foals.  Clinically, the first sign of deficiency is anemia.  Lack of either FOLIC ACID or VITAMIN B12 can create anemias.  As the deficiency may be indistinguishable for either of these essential vitamins, they are often grouped into one product for therapeutic and preventive use.

Indications:  It is an essential B Group vitamin which is involved in many metabolic processes as an important coenzyme.  It’s most important role is in the formation of nucleic acids (DNA) from amino acids.  It (along with VITAMIN B12, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C and Iron) is vital to the formation of red and white blood cells and hemoglobin as well as for rapidly dividing cells, which include gastrointestinal epitheleal cells, the growing foetus, skin and hair.

It is involved in the formation of the amino acids glycine and methionine, as well as the vitamin choline.  Vitamin B12 is essential to the formation of it.  Folate is abundant in fresh green feeds, but processing feed rapidly destroys it.  It’s supplementation is highly recommended during pregnancy as deficiencies in young growing animals are often associated with retardation.  Cooking and storage of feeds destroy Folic Acid levels.  When antibiotics, particularly sulphur drugs, are used for extended periods, the normal synthesis of Folic acid in the gut will be reduced and the requirements for Folic Acid are increased.

It’s requirements are far greater in athletic performance horses where the synthesis and absorption from the gut are reduced by the stress of performance and training.  Supplements of FOLIC ACID are reported to improve antibody response in animals.  VITAMIN B12 is useful to stimulate appetite in horses and is essential in maintenance of adequate blood counts. Dosage and Administration:  Administer 5-10ml by intramuscular injection twice weekly or as advised by a veterinary surgeon.

It can be used with all Racehorse Meds products. Presentation:  100ml sterile injection. Storage:  Store below 25C (air conditioning) and protect from light (always keep stored in box). Note:  For use as a supplemental source of Vitamins & Amino Acids in horses, cattle, sheep, swine, camels, alpacas and pigeons.  These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Tips for Trainers:Pregnancy: It is critically involved with VITAMIN B12, Cobalt and VITAMIN C metabolism.  It should be supplemented in brood mares during pregnancy, and in young, growing foals. Performance: It is vital in the reformation of high turnover cells and in stressed performance horses the synthesis of FOLIC ACID in the gut and absorption from the gut may be inadequate.  Also, consider supplementation whenever sulphur based antibiotics have been used. B Complex Vitamins: Are water soluble and required in regular amounts at all times.

FOLIC ACID and VITAMIN B12 are members of this group of vitamins, which are essential to a wide range of body processes. As the anemias caused by deficiency of either FOLIC ACID or VITAMIN B12 are clinically indistinguishable, the two vitamins are effectively combined in the one product.
