Pharmacological properties Fosprenil has an antiviral effect against the carnivorous plague virus, parvoviruses, adenoviruses, coronaviruses and a number of other animal viruses. The drug modulates the functioning of the natural resistance system within the physiological limits, has anti-inflammatory activity, is a hepatoprotector and detoxifier.

Indications
Treatment and prevention of viral diseases of calves, piglets, dogs and cats (plague of carnivores, viral enteritis, infectious hepatitis and canine adenovirosis; panleukopenia, infectious peritonitis and feline rhinotracheitis).

Doses and method of administration
The drug is administered mainly intramuscularly. In the treatment of viral infections in dogs, a single dose of fosprenil is 0.1 ml per 1 kg of body weight. In the treatment of viral infections of cats, a single therapeutic dose of fosprenil is 0.2 ml per 1 kg of body weight. In severe and moderate clinical forms of viral infections, a single therapeutic dose of fosprenil should be doubled: dogs – 0.2 ml per 1 kg of body weight; cats – 0.4 ml per 1 kg of body weight. It is possible to use the drug inside dogs and cats, while a single dose should be used, doubled in relation to the intramuscular dose. In the treatment of viral diseases of calves, a single intramuscular dose is 0.1 ml per 1 kg of body weight. When treating viral enteritis, suckling piglets weighing 3 – 5 kg are injected intramuscularly for 8 days, 0.5 ml of fosprenil. The treatment regimen depends on the type of disease. The universal course for severe forms of canine distemper in dogs, panleukopenia and infectious peritonitis in cats consists of 40 doses: from the 1st to the 2nd day – 4 doses per day (every 6 hours), from the 3rd to the 10th day – 3 doses per day (every 8 hours), from the 11th to the 13th day – 2 doses per day (every 12 hours), 14th and 15th days – 1 dose per day. For moderate forms of canine distemper in dogs, panleukopenia and infectious peritonitis in cats, as well as for parvovirus enteritis and hepatitis in dogs, the following treatment regimen is used: on the 1st day – 4 doses per day (every 6 hours), from the 2nd on the 8th day – 3 doses per day (every 8 hours), from the 9th to the 11th day – 2 doses per day (every 12 hours), from the 12th to 15th day – 1 dose per day … With a mild course of the same viral infections, as well as with adenoviroses in dogs and viral rhinotracheitis in cats, the basic scheme of treatment remains the same, but the total duration of the course is reduced to 3 – 7 days: on the 1st day (or in the first 2 – 3 days) – 3 doses per day (after every 8 hours), on the 2nd day (or on the 3rd – 5th days) – 2 doses per day (every 12 hours), on the 3rd day (or on the 5th – 7th days) – 1 dose per day. With a mild course of carnivorous plague (initial stage), the total duration of treatment should be at least 2 weeks. In the treatment of viral diseases of calves, the following scheme is used: on the 1st day – 4 injections per day (every 6 hours), from the 2nd to the 4th day – 3 injections per day (every 8 hours), on the 5th day – th day – 2 injections per day (every 12 hours). If necessary, the course of treatment can be extended up to 7 days by administering a single dose of the drug 2 times a day. When treating viral enteritis of piglets, the following treatment regimen is used: on the 1st day – 4 injections per day (every 6 hours), from the 2nd to the 4th day – 3 injections per day (every 8 hours), from 5 on the 7th day – 2 injections per day (every 12 hours), on the 8th day – 1 injection per day. The treatment regimen can be adjusted depending on the severity of the disease and the characteristics of the individual sensitivity of the organism. If necessary, it is possible to prescribe repeated courses of treatment. In severe and moderate clinical forms of viral infections, it is necessary to use fosprenil in combination with antibiotics, antihistamines and symptomatic therapy aimed at correcting the water-salt and acid-base balance, detoxifying the body, normalizing body temperature and maintaining vital organs. Additional use of immunomodulatory drugs is not required. The combination with interferon preparations and interferon inducers increases the effectiveness of treatment. Treatment is stopped 2 to 3 days after the normalization of the general condition, the disappearance of the main clinical symptoms of the disease. For the purpose of prophylaxis (with the threat of infectious diseases after contact with sick animals, before visiting exhibitions, before long trips), the drug is used once in one therapeutic dose.
